“Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it; begin it now.” Goethe

What Is Coaching?

A coach possesses a wide range of personal attributes that are their skill base. They are good at:

  • Raising awareness
  • Listening
  • Asking questions
  • Giving feedback and advice
  • Making suggestions, but not imposing them
  • They have belief and faith in human potential
  • Consistent focus on learning
  • Humility
  • Consistency of approach
  • Flexibility of approach,
  • Their ego is attached to clients achievements
  • An ability to prioritize and have high expectations

Focusing on the process for clients, is often more important than the results.

“Coaching is the art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of others” Miles Downey

Note the use of the word “art”, coaching is both science and art, the science is the understanding of how and why it works, the art is the ability to be instinctive and intuitive in maximizing the application of the science.

A good coach will motivate others to develop themselves, promoting initiative and self responsibility.

Coaching, how it works and why

Coaching unlocks a persons potential to maximize their success in achieving their goals.

The power of coaching comes from the relationship between client and coach, the client may not realise this until the end of the process, but it is true. For ultimate success, the client must realise that lasting results come when the client becomes aware of their own capabilities, trust them and makes full use of them.

One role of the coach is to help organize the clients mind in a more productive way, helping him/her develop the lesser used parts and quieten the overpowering parts to create an environment where they will be able to use their own resources to solve any issue.

This, at the fundamental level is best seen when goals are clearly identified and qualified. Each time any decision in their life or bisiness is taken, it should be based on:-

“Does it move me towards or away from my goal?”
And the decision is made simpler by virtue of removing all the options that don't move you towards it and you are left with only the options that do move you towards your goal.

The result of a successful relationship will leave the client very self sufficient and capable of, and eager to take only those actions which will help them.
